How long does a cat/dog have in the pound before it is euthanized?

I was just wondering does anyone know how long a cat or dog has in a pound before they get put to sleep? There was a kitty at the pound that they said had been there for almost a month! Should I go get her?!

i'd get her. Sometimes it depends on their temperment and how the staff feels about an animal. I am volunteering this summer at a shelter and usually the agressive dogs and snappy ones are put down first while the nicer ones and ones that have a good chance of being adopted..stay. The well behaved ones stay longest. like the ones that know thricks because sometimes we think they might have an owner. I want to adopt every dog and cat there. its just sad when one has to be put down for no good reason except that no one wanted it just because it was over the age of 2. but usually cats go first in our shelter, because there is so many. Dogs stay longer usually for about 3-4 weeks before being put down cats about 2-4 weeks.
