Well, that's kind of a tough answer. The only way to really tell is to get multiple brands and place them in front of the dog, and, whichever one is first empty, that's the one that you should do, because that's the one the dog likes the most.

Raw dog food

This type of dog food is gaining popularity these past few years. Proponents of the raw food diet for dogs believe that eating processed or cooked foods isn't the way that nature intended dogs should eat. They believe that raw meat, fruits and vegetables is the best dog food since there are no chemicals involved in making them ready for the market. There are a lot of advantages in making your own dog food, for one you control what goes into your dog's food. What Is Best For My Jack Russell - Commercial, Raw Or Cooked Homemade Dog Food

However if we want the best for our dog, then we have to look at other sources of food for our dog - namely non-commercial food. Exceedingly people find a difference in the dog's health when they switch from canned dog food to homemade dog food.

Raw Dog Food
When giving non-commercial dog food, we can either provide raw, cooked or mix raw and cooked food. There are pro and cons to providing raw food to your Jack Russell. The main disadvantage is raw food is that it may contain bacteria such as e.coli or salmonella. If your dog consumes food with these bacteria it may cause problems for him.

However your dog's stomach is strong enough to manage other common bacteria. This is due to the fact that your terrier's stomach makes hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes which creates a level of acidity in the stomach which prevents these bacteria from surviving. If any of these bacteria survives the acid, thankfully the small intestine of your dog is very short and these bacteria gets passed out without causing any problems.

Homemade Dog Food
The benefit of cooked homemade dog food for your Jack Russell is that cooking kills the harmful bacteria but unfortunately it also destroys some of the enzymes in the food that is beneficial to your terrier. Hence digesting cooked homemade dog food requires more enzymes than digesting raw food.

Some dogs may also have weaker stomachs and their stomach may not produce the necessary level of acids and enzymes that is able to fight and kill the bacteria. In cases like this you have no choice but to give cooked homemade dog food for your dog.

Cooked Dog Food Or Raw Dog Food
Cooked homemade dog food or raw dog food? That depends on the individual as well as their dogs. If you truly have a very busy lifestyle, you may not have the time to cook the food for your dog. As such, it may be easier for you to feed your dog with the raw stuff. However some dogs may have a weaker stomach and may not be able to take their food raw. To let their dog's system get used to it, I provide my dogs with cooked food first and then slowly move them to raw dog food.

However the ultimate decision depends on how your dog can adapt to raw food. If he has problems with raw dog food due to his weaker stomach, then you have no choice but stick with cooked homemade dog food.

How to Choose the Correct Size Dog Carrier

One of the most popular questions I get is how to choose the correct sized dog carrier.

Below are some questions to ask yourself before looking for a dog carrier:

• What does your dog weigh?
o If still a puppy, what will it weigh when full grown? What did its parents weigh?
• What is the length of your dog? Take a measurement from their tip of their nose to the base of their tail.
• What do you want to use this carrier for?

Dog Weight:

Most dog carriers are good for dogs up to 12 pounds. After that, you may want to think if you really want to be carrying around a 12 pound plus dog. If so, I would look into a wheeled dog carrier or another type of carrier besides one that hangs on your shoulder. The weight on every carrier is different, so please check. If it does not say in the description, don’t be afraid to ask. If you have a very tiny dog, such as a dog less than 4 pounds, you should be able to choose any dog carrier there is.

Dog Length:

It is important to give your dog enough room to move and feel comfortable in the carrier. But at the same time you don’t want it to be too large that every time they move, they are tilting and off-setting the carrier. The best thing to do is measure your dog and add a few inches to get the correct size dog carrier. If the carrier you are interested in has a place where the head sticks out, you will not need as big of a carrier than if you were picking a carrier that is enclosed.

Carrier Purpose:

Are you looking for a carrier to just take your dog to the veterinarian’s office or are you looking for a carrier to take your dog into stores with you? The purpose of your carrier will affect the price that you have to pay. If you are looking for a simpler carrier that can show your dog you will be able to find many lower cost options. If you are looking for a dog carrier that will hide your dog you will be spending more money. This is due to the extra materials needed to make it more like a purse than a carrier.
